Shawn Carroll
Shawn Carroll has been involved with the leather community for many years, holding the titles of Canadian Leather Man 2005 and Mr. Ottawa Bear 2008. In 2005, as Mr. Cellblock 2005, Shawn won the title of Mr. Leather Ottawa 2005, and represented his community proudly at International Mr. Leather 2005 where he placed in the top 10. His IML speech about acceptance and his own personal body-image issues won him both acclaim and respect in the International Leather Community.
"Mama's Canuck Care Bear" lives in Ottawa with his husband/daddy Warren, and is a former member of the Ottawa Knights. He has traveled to many leather events and has served as a judge for Mr. Leather Ottawa, MidAtlantic Leather, and Mr. San Francisco Leather. He is the owner/moderator of the Canadian Leather Family chat group on Yahoo, a place where all Canadian leather folk and friends are encouraged to share their stories, pictures, and thoughts.
His great passion is for “the documentation and preservation of our leather history.” He is a living example of the diversity within leather culture and why we must learn to accept diversity rather than judge it: not fitting the "Tom of Finland" ideal does not stop someone from making valuable contributions to our community.
