Demetri Moshoyannis

A native New Yorker, Demetri Moshoyannis is now a permanent California resident, and currently serves as the Executive Director for Folsom Street Events. A third-time E.D., having directed two HIV/AIDS agencies prior to his work with Folsom Street Events – Bay Area Young Positives (SF) and Being Alive People with HIV/AIDS Action Coalition (LA), he brings 16 years of nonprofit executive management experience with a focus on fundraising and philanthropy to his position. He also served as a grant reviewer and site visit consultant for various branches of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Demetri has worked diligently at Folsom Street Events to breathe new life into the agency, and under his direction the organization has created new areas at the infamous Folsom Street Fair like Venus’ Playground (the leatherwomen’s area) and the Erotic Artists’ Area, and has also attracted top-name entertainment to the Fair. In addition, he created new events such as Bay of Pigs, the Official Saturday Night Event over Up Your Alley weekend, a formal leather dinner and a leather/GLBT city tour during San Francisco Leather Week. The agency now operates eight major annual events with an operating budget of over $1.1 million, donating more than 30% of that budget back to direct service charities every year.

In 1997, Demetri joined the Men of Discipline in New York City and became an active member of the leather community. In 1998, he became a full member. He is also a founder of the Men of Discipline San Francisco, which is still active today. He has presented at various conferences, including the Leather Leadership Conference 12 in San Francisco, CA, and InterPride in St. Petersburg, FL.

He lives in the Castro with his sexy partner Josh and dogs Buddha and Sandwiches. He enjoys indie dance music, international travel, independent film and drinking beer in his underpants.
